2010 NFL Draft Picks: Leon Washington decided to spend Day 3 of the 2010 NFL Draft on the high seas. Leon Washington and former Jets teammate Chris Baker made a sport fishing date for Saturday afternoon off the coast of Long Island. In the early afternoon, many Washington’s fans were regretting strongly the one that got away.
In perhaps the most stunning move in a wild off-season, the Jets traded their popular all-purpose star to the Seahawks for the small price of a fifth-round pick. Actually, it was Washington and a seventh-round pick for the fifth-rounder, which the Jets used to select Kentucky fullback John Conner.
When Washington reported to the Jets’ off-season workouts eight days ago and signed his one-year contract of $1.75 million, it was widely assumed that he will be with the Jets in 2010, regulate his surgically repaired broken leg. But the New York Jet’s front office told him there was a chance he could be dealt, according to Washington.
