Ryan Mathews has missed the practice session on Thursday due to an injured left foot. Charger’s coach Norv Turner believes that it was the running back’s best game as a pro. Ryan has ran 21 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns and has added four receptions for 51 yards in 20-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite of lack of practice, Mathews is confident his foot will not impede his progress.
Ryan said that practice certainly helps with timing, but he is comfortable with the game plan. He added that he will get a full practice in tomorrow and believes he’ll be ready to go on Sunday. The other half of the Chargers’ two-back system, Mike Tolbert is healthy and ready to go after sustaining a minor calf injury on 18th September against the New England Patriots.
Coach Turner said that they are lucky that they have two quality backs in Mike and Ryan who do a lot for them. He added that they will use the rushers that match up best with the Dolphins defence. Including Ryan, the other who missed out the practice session was defensive end Jacques Cesaire due to knee injury, receivers Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd due to abdomen and groin injury respectively. In addition cornerback Quentin Jammer and tight end Antonio Gates have also missed the practice due to hamstring and foot injury respectively.
