Chicago Bears wide receiver Sam Hurd has been arrested over federal drug charges on Wednesday night, December 14 in Chicago. The local office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement is investigating the case.
Sam allegedly tried to buy cocaine and marijuana from a dealer in North Texas and he has been dealing with huge amounts of drugs in the Chicago area.
U.S. Magistrate Young Kim ordered Hurd held until at least Friday while prosecutors and defense attorneys work out bond details. If he release then he will be moved to Texas.
The police have been preparing the list of NFL players who are having drug deals and maintaining relationship with Hurd. Reportedly, Hurd is supplying the drugs to more than ten players. Hurd attorney David Kenner said Sam intends to fight these charges, and they intend to defend him fully. Kenner, who defended rapper Snoop Dogg against a murder charge, expressed his confidence that Sam will come out soon.
As per the police reports, the 26-year-old player with an drug dealer at Morton’s restaurant in Rosemont, Ill and said he wants to buy five to 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana weekly to distribute across the Chicago area. Both dined on $300 worth of filet mignon. Hurd even said he and another person are already distributing approximately four kilos of cocaine weekly in Chicago. Now, they want to supply more as the requirement is high. Sam has agreed to pay $25,000 for each kilo of cocaine and $450 per pound of marijuana. Hurd added he will pay total amount after finishing his practice. After the deal, he left the restaurant and arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
However, Bears did not respond to the incident because Sam is the key player in the Bears offense. He finished eight receptions for 109 receiving yards this season so far. Bears Coach Lovie Smith Sam Hurd arrested disappointed and surprised him but he is till part of the team.
Hurd started his career with Dallas Cowboys in 2006 and continued till 2010. He signed with Chicago Bears on July 29. He finished 53 receptions of receiving yards 739 and two receiving touchdowns as of Week 13, 2011.
