Cleveland Browns Colt McCoy was hit by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback James Harrison on Thursday night. After the hit, he was taken to the sideline but the team or the medical staff did not give any concussion test to him and even doesn’t try to know the severity of the concussion.
McCoy got injured during the helmet-to-helmet hit with Harrison. On Tuesday, NFL suspended Harrison for a game because of illegal hit. The incident was witnessed by millions on television and thousands at Heinz Field.
On Tuesday, NFL medical officials and representatives of the NFL Players Association discussed with the Cleveland Browns over the McCoy’s issue. The discussion also covers the possible changes to the league’s policies on concussions and McCoy’s treatment.
Union chief DeMaurice Smith said they will review the findings with their team and take into consideration the public comments made by the Browns.
Holmgren said they was not checked McCoy for the concussion on the sideline after the hit because he wasn’t showing symptoms and team’s medical and training staffs were also unable to know the severity of McCoy’s helmet-to-face mask hit as they were busy in giving the treatments for other injured players. Colts back into the game after he got approval by medical personnel and trainer Joe Sheehan. Holmgren said Browns’ medical staff is the best staff in the American football.
Finally, Browns had nine concussions in this season so far before the Thursday night’s game, Brown sidelined tight end Benjamin Watson and fullback Owen Marecic due to concussions. McCoy remains doubtful for Sunday’s game against Arizona Cardinals because he moved to home due to headache and did not available for practice on Wednesday.
