Cleveland Browns Workout With Running Back Shane Vereen

The Cleveland Browns carried out an individual workout with California Golden Bears running back Shane Vereen. He was considered to be one of the top running back prospects for the 2011 NFL Draft.

Cleveland Browns running back coach, Gary Brown ran the workout with Shane Vereen on Tuesday 29th March, 2011. Sources stated that Chicago Bears coach running back coach Tim Spencer also conducted a private workout with Vereen because he could be the solid backup to Bears running back Matt Forte and Chester Taylor. Vereen ran the 40 yard in 4.49 seconds at the NFL scouting combine and he benched 225 pounds 31 times.

Shane Vereen was expecting to pick in the second or third round in the 2011 NFL Draft, which is going to be held in the next month. Vereen ran for the 2,834 yards including 35 touchdowns and he completed his career in the top 10 in rushing yards, all purpose yards, rushing touchdowns and scoring. In the last season, he rushed for the 1,167 yards with three touchdowns; he caught 22 passes for 209 rushing yards three scores and made an average 5.1 yards per carry. He played his college football for California Golden Bears from 2007 to 2010. In December, he decided to declare himself for the 2011 NFL Draft.

California Golden Bears has produced a lot of NFL runners in past years including with Justin Forsett, Marshawn Lynch and J.J. Arrington. In School history, Vereen ranks fifth with 4,609 career all purpose yards, 2,834 rushing yards, 74 passing catches for 674 yards and six touchdowns. He is also a valuable asset in the passing on the field.

Shane Vereen also talks with Oakland Raiders running back coach Kelly Skipper during the NFL scouting combine. New England Patriots wants to choose Vereen at 28th pick for the next months NFL Draft because running back Kevin Faulk, who will turn to 35 in June. Vereen says that, he is going to skip his senior season with California Golden Bears; he wants to enter the 2011 NFL Draft for the next season. California Golden Bears coach, Jeff Tedford said that Vereen has the pure speed and surprising power.
