Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver, Dez Bryant denies carrying the Roy Williams pads after Sunday’s training sessions. There is a tradition in NFL that senior players give their pads to a rookie after the training sessions.
Dez Bryant said that he is participating in the training sessions to catch passes and not to carry the shoulder pads of others. Dez Bryant performed well in the Sunday’s training session.
“I feel like I was drafted to play football, not carry another player’s pads,” Bryant said. “If I was a free agent, it would still be the same thing.”
Dallas Cowboys Veteran player, Roy Williams said that every rookie must follow the procedure during their first NFL season. Williams also said that he carried pads and paid for lunches and dinners during his first NFL season for Detroit Lions in 2004. On Saturday, Roy Williams praised Dez Bryant that he is a great player and he was delighted that Bryant is playing for Dallas Cowboys.
It’s a general thing for the rookies. Many first-round picks carry water for Bill Parcells during breaks in the training sessions.
“Everybody has to go through it,” Williams said. “I had to go through it. No matter if you’re a No. 1 pick or the 7,000th pick, you’ve still got to do something when you’re a rookie.â€
