Rutgers defensive tackle, Eric LeGrand was paralyzed below the neck due to his collision with Malcomb Brown. Rutgers and Army game became intense as both teams made equal scores with 17-17 in the fourth quarter.
The incident was happened near the 25-yard-line, LeGrand’s head bent down on the opposing player’s left shoulder and collapsed. LeGrand left the field on stretcher and he was sent to hospital in Pittsburgh. On Sunday, LeGrand had spine surgery and Rutgers announced that LeGrand was paralyzed from the neck down.
Rutgers coach, Greg Schiano and players have visited LeGrand after their 23-20 overtime victory against Army.
“Eric’s spirits were as good as you can expect,” Rutgers coach, Greg Schiano said. “He was cognizant of me being there, his mom, everybody. He’s a fighter.”
