Bill Dudley the star of NFL in the 1940s and early 1950s died Thursday at age 88.
A quotation from Sammy Baugh: “We always wondered how he gained as much yardage as he did. But he had that instinct. He would do things that always amazed me, how he could get out of trouble.”

Welcome to the conundrum the Cowboys face entering Saturday’s game at New Orleans. The Saints are averaging 35.8 points. Drew Brees has thrown 32 touchdown passes and only 10 interceptions. He’s been sacked 15 times. Wide receivers Marques Colston, Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem are each averaging 20 yards per catch in games at the Superdome this year. Running backs Mike Bell, Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush help make up the NFL’s fifth-best rushing offense.

NA month ago, the Green Bay Packers were worried that their season was slipping away.
Now they’ve won four straight after beating the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.
Yes, Monday’s 27-14 win was monumentally ugly. But that didn’t matter afterward, because the Packers are suddenly sitting pretty in the playoff race.
“It wasn’t pretty out there, but a win is a win,” Packers wide receiver Donald Driver said. “We had to get this one to stay ahead in the playoff race.”
While the Packers (8-4) are in good position to earn an NFC wild-card berth, Monday’s win showed they still have some work to do to be taken seriously once they make it to the playoffs.
Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes, including two to tight end Jermichael Finley. But Rodgers also had a pair of interceptions, two of the combined seven turnovers in the game. (more…)

NFL Week13 Picks: The Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens are in the thick of the playoff race in their respective conferences. That means both have little room for error in the final month of the season.
Both teams look to continue their recent success when they meet for the first time in four years Monday night at Lambeau Field.
While Green Bay (7-4) currently holds one of the wild-card spots in the NFC, the Ravens (6-5) are in the mix with Denver, Pittsburgh and Jacksonville for the two AFC wild-card berths. (more…)

NFL Week13 Picks: The Arizona Cardinals host the Minnesota Vikings, Sunday Dec 6, as the Cardinals look to rebound from their first loss in three wins. The Vikings have won seven of the last eight, and hold a 12-9 all-time edge. NFL oddsmakers at Sportsbetting.com have the Vikings as -5 point road favs over the Cardinals with the over/under set at 48.5 points.
The Vikings (10-1) beat Chicago 36-10 at home in Week 12 and have a commanding lead in the . QB Brett Favre made 32 of 48 passes for 392 yards with three TD’s; overall he’s thrown for 2,974 yards with 24 TD’s and three interceptions for a 111.7 passer rating. RB Adrian Peterson had 25 carries for 85 yards with a TD, while WR Percy Harvin made vsix catches for 101 yards with a TD. WR Visanthe Shiancoe and WR Chester Taylor each added a TD. NFL Week13 Picks: The Seattle Seahawks host the San Francisco 49ers, Sunday Dec 6, as both teams look for their first consecutive wins of the season. The teams have split their last eight meetings, but the Niners won their last meeting. NFL oddsmakers at Sportsbetting.com have the Seahawks as -1 point home favs over the Niners with the over/under set at 41.5 points.
The Niners (5-6) beat Jacksonville 20-3 at home in Week 12 and sit second in the NFC West. QB Alex Smith made 27 of 41 passes for 232 yards with two TD’s; overall he’s thrown for 1,267 yards with 11 TD’s and seven interceptions in seven starts for an 84.7 passer rating.
RB Frank Gore had 16 carries for 33 yards and he made seven catches for 14 yards with a TD, while WR Vernon Davis made six catches for 69 yards with a TD. The Niners defense had six sacks on the day. The Niners have played very well at home this year, but they have not been able to carry that success out on the road . San Francisco is just 1-4 SU in enemy territory, and it now faces the tough task of going to Seattle to play a Seahawks team that has the 13th man. (more…)

NFL Week13 Match: Looks like quarterback Mark Sanchez needs to take some more sliding lessons. At least the New York Jets’ bid to make a late-season playoff push is back on better footing.
Sanchez threw a go-ahead touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards before hurting his right knee, and the Jets’ stingy defense finished the job in a 19-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night.
The Jets (6-6) won their second straight game and moved within a victory of AFC East-leading New England (7-4), which plays at Miami on Sunday.

NFL Week13 Picks: The Dallas Cowboys are hoping Tony Romo can solve his late-season woes as they try to take a major step toward the NFC East title. The fading New York Giants are hopeful that Eli Manning’s right foot problem won’t hamper him in a game they desperately need.
The Cowboys make their final visit to Giants Stadium on Sunday when they try to avenge an earlier loss to New York, which needs a win to keep any realistic hopes of winning the division alive.
Dallas (8-3) leads Philadelphia by one game and New York by two in the East as it tries to erase the memories of past poor finishes. The Cowboys are 5-10 the previous three seasons after November, including two playoff losses.
Romo is a big reason for those woes with 16 touchdowns, 20 interceptions and a 58.2 completion percentage in those games. He has 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. (more…)

NFL Week13 Picks: The San Diego Chargers continue to roll over opponents. A Cleveland Browns team that owns one of the NFL’s worst defenses could have a difficult time slowing them down.
The AFC West-leading Chargers look to win their 15th straight December game Sunday when they face the injury-plagued Browns, who will try to avoid their 10th consecutive home loss.
San Diego (8-3) won its sixth in a row last week, 43-14 over Kansas City to regain a one-game lead over Denver in the division.
The Chargers, who posted their highest point total since a 48-29 victory over the New York Jets last Sept. 22, scored four of their five touchdowns off turnovers. (more…)
