Bill Dudley the star of NFL in the 1940s and early 1950s died Thursday at age 88.

Brett Favre cranked up and made one more impossible throw, zinging a touchdown pass in the fading seconds. Too bad for the Minnesota Vikings, that merely put them into overtime.
Once again, they came up short. And the way Favre sees it, they’re headed to an early playoff exit.
The Vikings lost again Monday night, beaten by the Chicago Bears 36-30 when Jay Cutler tossed a 39-yard strike to Devin Aromashodu. Minnesota fell for the third time in four games, and the defeat gave the New Orleans Saints homefield advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.
“I know we’re fortunate to be in the playoffs but we have to play better than we did the last few weeks or we’ll be home fairly quickly,” Favre said. “I’m just being honest as I can be.” (more…)

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre says he’s put aside any disagreements with coach Brad Childress.
The coach and quarterback would both agree Favre needs to avoid the sort of late-season swoon that plagued him last year. If he can replicate his last performance against the Chicago Bears, that won’t be an issue.
Favre and the Vikings try to bounce back from their second loss in three games and possibly clinch a postseason bye Monday night when they visit the struggling Bears.
Minnesota lost 26-7 at Carolina last week in a game that will be best remembered for what Favre termed a “heated discussion” with Childress on the sideline. It occurred after the coach attempted to pull the veteran quarterback in the third quarter even as Minnesota held a one-point lead.
Childress insists he was trying to protect Favre from a Panthers pass rush that sacked him four times. The two talked twice during the week to clear the air about the dispute, which included the coach grabbing his quarterback’s arm. (more…)

The fans at Gillette Stadium will be treated to a game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots when they take their seats on Sunday at 1:00pm EST in a game that can be seen on CBS. The Miami Dolphins host the Houston Texans, Sunday Dec 27, as both teams desperately try for an AFC Wild Card spot. The Texans have won all four meetings. NFL oddsmakers at BETREPUBLIC.com have the Dolphins as -3 point home favs over the Texans with the over/under set at 45 points .

The Arizona Cardinals wrapped up their second consecutive division title last week, but coach Ken Whisenhunt doesn’t want the team to be content with just making the playoffs.
The Cardinals still have an outside shot at a first-round bye, but they need to win their final two games, beginning with Sunday’s visit from the woeful St. Louis Rams.
Arizona (9-5) clinched the NFC West title with a 31-24 victory in Detroit and San Francisco’s loss in Philadelphia last Sunday, winning the franchise’s first back-to-back division crowns since 1974-75.
The Cardinals fell into a rut after securing last season’s title, losing 35-14 at home to Minnesota and 47-7 in New England before winning their season finale. They bounced back to reach the Super Bowl, but Whisenhunt would like to make this season’s playoff push a little easier. (more…)

The Steelers needed all 503 of quarterback Ben Roethlisbergers’ passing yards, as well as all 60 minutes of alotted time, to win against the Green Bay Packers last Sunday. Roethlisberger fired a 19-yard touchdown pass to the extreme front corner of the end zone to WR Mike Wallace as time expired to defeat Green Bay 37-36, abruptly ending the Steelers’ five game losing streak.
Pittsburgh comes into the next game against Baltimore with a feeling that has been absent since Mid-November, due to the fact that they have won a game.
Baltimore thoroughly dominated the Chicago Bears this past week, winning 31-7. In that outing, quarterback Joe Flacco was spectacular, completing 21 of 29 passes for 234 yards and a career high four touchdowns. The Ravens have made a hard push for the playoffs as winner of three of their last four games. Currently Baltimore is slated in the final wild-card spot in the AFC playoffs. (more…)

Essentially, the Green Bay Packers could guarantee themselves a spot in the playoffs for the first time in the post-Brett Favre era Sunday. Needing just one win in either of the final two weeks of the year, they get their best shot this week when they host the Seattle Seahawks.
Seattle, losers in four of their last six, are on the heels of probably it’s worst loss of the year, falling to 24-7 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. Matt Hasselbeck was picked off four times by the league’s ninth-rated pass defense, and his offense was 0-for-2 in the red zone.
For those reasons alone, the Seahawks would be a logical double-digit underdog, for those of you who do any NFL Betting, but pair it with what’s on the line for Green Bay and it’s the third-biggest spread of the week.
