Super Bowl 2010: Saints took inspiration from Katrina disaster

nflNew Orleans saints won the Super Bowl XLIV on their first Super Bowl appearance in their 42 year league history. The Saints apparently took inspiration from the Katrina disaster according the quarterback and most valuable player Drew Brees.

Drew Brees is quoted as saying “We played for so much more than ourselves. We played for our city and we played for the entire Gulf Coast region.” This was echoed in a further statement by the teams coach Sean Payton. (more…)

NFL Star Bill Dudley Passes Away at 88

nflBill Dudley the star of NFL in the 1940s and early 1950s died Thursday at age 88.

A quotation from Sammy Baugh: “We always wondered how he gained as much yardage as he did. But he had that instinct. He would do things that always amazed me, how he could get out of trouble.”

Who say the Saints will win the Super Bowl?

NFL GirlAccording to EA Sports, Drew Brees will lift the Lombardi Trophy this Sunday.

Using a video game simulation of Super Bowl XLIV with their football franchise Madden NFL, the publisher predicts the New Orleans Saints will upset the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 35-31.

According to the simulation, Saints quarterback Drew Brees snags MVP honors by throwing for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Saints running back Reggie Bush boasts a strong game with 78 total yards, one TD and an additional score off a punt return. (more…)

Scott Green is Referee for Super Bowl XLIV

D059467120.JPGScott Green has appointed as the referee for the Super Bowl 2010 when the Colts and Saints meet on Sunday.

Green, who previously served as a back judge in Super Bowls XXXVI and XXXVIII, will serve as the referee for the first time in an NFL title game. He is a 19-year veteran who has officiated 12 playoff games, most recently the Cardinals’ 51-45 OT win against the Packers in the wild-card round.

The NFL rewards its highest-performing officials (based on the league’s internal evaluation system) with an invitation to work the Super Bowl. (more…)

Super Bowl teams represent the New Model for Winning the NFL

nflIn the Super Bowl 1973, Bob Griese threw a grand total of 11 passes to help the Miami Dolphins complete the NFL’s only perfect season.

The league was more wide open a generation later, when winning quarterback Troy Aikman tossed 23 passes in the 1996 championship game for the Dallas Cowboys. The Baltimore Ravens allowed Trent Dilfer to throw a whopping 25 times when they won the league title in 2001.

Peyton Manning and Drew Brees may surpass those numbers before halftime in Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints, because passing wins like never before. (more…)
