Reportedly, the San Francisco 49ers has added the free safety Madieu Williams to the mix. One of the league sources has said that the veteran has agreed with the 49ers on a one-year contract.
The 29-year-old Madieu Williams was released by the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday after playing three seasons there. Besides, he has plated his first four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals who has selected him in the second round of the 2004 draft. However, his contract with the 49ers is believed to be just over the veteran minimum salary of $ 810,000.
Madieu Williams was to make $5.4 million in salary this season with the Vikings as a part of the six-year $33 million deal that has brought him to Minnesota in 2008.
Last year, Madieu Williams was voted the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year. Williams has donated $2 million to his alma mater, the University of Maryland in order to help create the Madieu Williams Centre for Global Health Initiatives. Meanwhile, the 49ers are adding Williams and they appear to be losing one of their long-time defensive stalwarts. In addition to this, citing a league source, media has reported that on Monday night, the free-agent linebacker Manny Lawson has agreed to one-year and $3 million contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.
