The 20-year-old Garrett Gilbert will be starting quarterback for the University of Texas for the upcoming season, as the team officials are announced on Monday.
Garrett Gilbert has thrown 17 interceptions as Texas went on for 5-7 in the last season, where Texas losing the season for the first time, since 1997. The University of Texas head coach said that, Garrett Gilbert will start quarterback for Texas and Gilbert had moved to No. 1, after the team’s second scrimmage. Bryan Harsin’s tried to build the competition as intense as possible between quarterbacks Gilbert, McCoy, and freshmen David Ash and Connor Wood for the position.
Bryan Harsin said that, Gilbert is one of the best understandings of the plays, audibles and defensive reads. He added the competition in the team is very fun in between the four quarterbacks, where the all the quarterbacks have a good relationship. Gilbert said that, he wants to concentrate on his performance and hopes to do well in the upcoming season.
University of Texas guard David Snow said that, Gilbert is having the ability to become a great leader and he has improved a lot in the last season. Boise said that, he doesn’t have any problem with the decision taken by offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin to move Gilbert as a starter. Brown and former offensive coordinator Greg Davis rejected to offer freshman Case McCoy a opportunity in the last season.
