The Jacksonville Jaguars signed wide receiver Chastin West off the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad Tuesday and waived rookie wideout Jamar Newsome. West joined the Packers as an undrafted rookie in 2010 where he spent entire season on their practice squad. However, West led Green Bay in the 2011 preseason with eight receptions for 153 yards. He was waived in final cuts and later was signed to the practice squad. He had a 97-yard touchdown reception against Arizona in week two of the preseason.
West might play Sunday at Carolina. Receivers Jason Hill (hip) and Kassim Osgood (hamstring) are recovering from injuries, and it’s unclear if they will be ready. West was a three-year letterman at Fresno State as a wide receiver and return specialist. He finished his career with six touchdowns on 79 receptions and had three returns for scores.  He starred in football and track at Moorpark High School and was the first player in school history to get a Division I-A scholarship offer. West will be wearing a jersey number 17.
Newsome made Jacksonville’s opening-day roster as an undrafted rookie and was active for last Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. He didn’t have a catch
