It’s Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano’s turn to be fired and he is third NFL coach who got fired in the last two weeks.
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is likely to recruit former president of the Kansas City Chiefs, Carl Peterson to fill the position of executive vice president of football operations. Previously it was held by Bill Parcells.
On Monday, Miami announced that they have been fired Tony Sparano. The announcement was made by the team after their lost to Philadelphia Eagles in week 14 game Sunday. Miami lost their first seven games of the season and won three consecutive games. Totally, Dolphins has 4-9 record in this season so far.
Ross held the press conference and announced team’s general manager Jeff Ireland will stay on board in some capacity. On the other side, Peterson is not interested to join Dolphins in an official capacity.
Peterson said Steve Ross is a very dear friend and they both worked together on their project with FanVision and, yes, there are football-related matters that he is more than happy to discuss with my friend but he do not anticipate any job as described in the report.
Kansas City Chiefs fired coach Todd Haley Monday but just few hours before Tony’s suspension. On November 29, Jacksonville Jaguars fired coach Jack Del Rio.
Miami’s assistant head coach and secondary coach, Todd Bowles was appointed as interim head coach for the final three games. On Sunday, Dolphins is going to face Buffalo Bills. Ross said Ireland will continue as general manager and will take the responsibilities of appointing new coach.
Dolphins running back Reggie Bush tweeted – “Sad and disappointing news on Coach Sparano’s termination. He’s a great coach and an even better man! He will be greatly missed.â€
