Miami Dolphins player Jason Ferguson was suspended for eight games of next season for breaking the NFL’s drug policy conditions, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed on Sunday.
Jason Ferguson, 35 year-old also suspended for the same reason in the year 1999 after an anabolic steroid showed up in a urine test. That time he was out for four games. But, now he was suspended for more games than previous as this is the second time.
Before drafted by the New York Jets he also faced some allegations for marijuana at the scouting combine in the year 1997. He played seven seasons for the New York Jets.
“People are thinking I’m a drug addict or something like that, and that’s ridiculous,” Ferguson told at the time. “I read bottles and I know steroids. I didn’t take no damn steroids.”
Jason Ferguson was ruled out due to injury in November and underwent surgery after one month. He played nine games for the Miami Dolphins last season. Coach Tony Sparano called him a “heck of a player” at the time of his injury.
A Dolphins spokesman, Harvey Greene, said Ferguson remained a free agent and had not signed a new contract.
“We won’t comment because he’s not officially on our roster,” Greene told. The team has not told whether they planned to re-sign Ferguson for next season.
