Nike has re-signed the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Michael Vick to an endorsement deal on Friday. He has been re-signed after four years of dropping him amid his legal troubles. Vick has been signed by Nike in 2001 as a rookie. However, after he filed a plea agreement admitting his involvement in a dog fighting ring, he got terminated his contract in August 2007. Vick was awarded 21 months of imprisonment.
During a statement Nike has said that Michael acknowledges his past mistakes and they do not condone those actions. However, they supports the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field. The Chicago-based attorney, Andrew Stroth has said that Michael is committed to working with Nike and wants to utilize his platform as a professional athlete to have a positive impact on their youth.
Initially, Vick and Nike have renewed their relationship in 2009 when the company announced that it had agreed to supply product to the quarterback, who was not under the contract. Similarly, Nike has the agreement with quite a few athletes with whom it does not have endorsement deals.
Michael Vick has signed a one-year contract with the Eagles in March which was few weeks after being designated as the team’s franchise player. In spite of missing three games with an injury, Michael Vick has re-established himself as one of the most exciting players in the NFL. In his career, he has 3,018 yards passing, 21 touchdowns passes as well as nine touchdowns rushing. In addition to this Vick has 62.6 completion percentage and 100.2 passer rating.
