Ohio State football has announced Urban Meyer as a new coach for the team for the upcoming season, where he has resigned as head coach at the University of Florida after last season.
The 47-year-old Urban Meyer will become one of the highest paid coaches in college football, where he has worked under Alabama’s Nick Saban, Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops and Texas’ Mack Brown. Meyer has received $4 million annually for six-year contract, additional more $2.4 million total in “retention payments. Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said that, his first discussion with Urban Meyer about becoming a team’s head coach was on 20th November. But Smith wants to meet up face-to-face on 23rd November.
University of Florida has clinched two national championships in six years, under the leadership of Coach Meyer and he also met with the Ohio State team on Monday evening, before leaving for news conference. Meyer said he was impressed with the players’ eagerness and acceptance and had a 104-23 record, while his teams having 7-1 in bowl games including the Gators’ 41-14 clinched victory against top-ranked Ohio State in 2007 Bowl Championship Series.
Urban Meyer’s last game as University of Florida coach was a 37–24 win over Penn State in the 2011 Outback Bowl on 1st January 2011.Ohio State Buckeyes had 6-6 win loss record and holds 4th place in Big Ten this season. Ohio State has lost their last game against Michigan Wolverines with 34-40 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday 26th November.
