Pittsburgh Steelers Extends Mike Tomlin Deal Up to 2012

Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that they extended the contract of Mike Tomlin to 2012 NFL regular season, with an optional year in 2013.

Mike Tomlin is the third coach for Pittsburgh Steelers following Chuck Noll (1969-91) and Bill Cowher (1992-2006). According to the policies of Pittsburgh Steelers, they have to make an agreement with a coach before he starts a new season.

Mike Tomlin recorded 31-17 in three seasons includes two division titles, AFC championship and a Super Bowl victory (2008 season) where they defeated Arizona Cardinals with 27-23.

“Mike Tomlin has proMike Tomlinven to be one of the top head coaches in the National Football League in a relatively short time,” Pittsburgh Steelers president, Art Rooney. “His unique ability to lead the team and motivate individuals has been key factors in our success.”

Pittsburgh Steelers missed the playoffs and had 9-7 record last season. Steelers have started training camp on July 30 at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. Earlier there was news that Pittsburgh Steelers extended the contract of Mike Tomlin for three years till 2014 season.

Mike Tomlin has received an average of $2.5 million per season and in the new contract, he may receive double than the previous.
