Matt Stover, Baltimore Ravens former kicker has announced his retirement yesterday after two decades in the football career.
Stover is the leading scorer for Ravens with 1,464 points and he exits as No.4 high scorer of the league history with 2,004 points and 471 field goals. He played as the offensive player in the Baltimore Ravens team for most of the time. He is also ranked 7th in the league in field-goal accuracy, with an 83.7 percent success rate.
Ravens kicker made his retirement official at the news conference at the Ravens’ training complex and said that, he gave everything to the game what he is capable of.
The 43-year-old kicker will be included into the Ravens’ Ring of Honor at M&T Bank Stadium on November 20. It will be awesome to be privileged by the franchise as it is the biggest honor any player can receive. He represented Ravens for 13 years but his early career was started with Cleveland Browns and moved to Maryland in 1996.
Stover has not been part of the last season and his last was in February 2010 against New Orleans Saints. He connected on 471 of 563 career field-goal attempts by making 354 of 418 attempts with the Ravens, and connected on 402 of 403 extra-point tries.
Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said that, Matt has been one of the most reliable for Baltimore Ravens they have had in this franchise.
