DeMeco Ryans, middle linenacker of Houston Texans has taken a pivotal dual role for his team as the NFL lockout has prolonged into its fourth month.
The linebacker Ryans is one of the Texans player’s representatives, along with right tackle Eric Winston who were keeping the players in shape of regular season as coaches were not allowed to contact with players during the lockouts. Ryans has undertaken the job of teaching new coordinator Wade Phillips’ 3-4 defense strategy, where they suffered the worst league in 2010.
Ryans said that as senior player he was just doing his job, many of his teammates have attended the workouts. On Monday at Rice University 35 players have participated in voluntary practice session for about 80 minutes.
Quarterback Matt Schaub, defensive end Mario Williams and linebacker Brian Cushing were among the beginners who joined Ryans at the workout, the first of three this week. The rookie players Shiloh Keo, Brooks Reed and T.J. Yates also practiced involuntary workouts.
Schaub led the players through a series of warm-up drills before the group split up, according to their positions. He added that the players who represented the team workouts will serve the team better.
Ryans is still recovering from a ruptured Achilles’ tendon that kept away for the past 10 games in last season. He said that the workouts are very important for them to get the players in different offensive sets which suit them. Shiloh Keo, who is a fifth round pick, was a safety pick for Ryans and he has been impressive in workouts.
