Was This The End Of The Patriots Era Atop The NFL?

nflWas the Patriots’ loss to the Ravens in Sunday’s wild-card loss an epitaph to the franchise’s run atop the NFL for the past decade?

After Sunday’s game, Ravens WR Kelley Washington, a former Patriots player, yelled out: “The era is over!”

Is it so? Consider:

* The Patriots, lauded in many corners as the NFL’s team of the 2000s, have now gone five straight seasons without a Super Bowl title. (more…)

New England Patriots Vs. Buffalo Bills NFL Week15 Predictions

nflNew England Patriots vs Buffalo Bills NFL Week 15 Predictions: After a nightmare of a week, head coach Bill Belichick didn’t exactly get the effort he expected from his team at home last week. Despite the turnovers and certain players quitting on plays, the (8-5) New England Patriots [-7] avoided a let down, and will visit the lowly (5-8) Buffalo Bills [+7] in this Week 15 Predictions.

This AFC East battle will take place this Sunday afternoon at 1 PM ET on CBS. The Pats come into this game leading the division, while the Bills have been at the cellar for most of the season. The OVER/UNDER, according to NFL Week 15 Predictions, is set at 40.5 points.

Despite being a perfect 7-0 this season, the Pats have been just as bad on the road, as they’ve failed to win an away game on U.S. soil (1-5). Last week, New England almost suffered its first home loss of the season. (more…)

Bills finally fire Jauron

nfl

The Buffalo Bills finally have fired Dick Jauron.

The only surprising aspect of the decision is that it happened now. Those who follow the team closely assumed that if the Bills hadn’t fired Jauron by now that he would last the rest of the season.

“I am announcing today that I am relieving Dick Jauron from his duties as our head coach, effective immediately,” Bills owner Ralph Wilson said in a statement released by the club. “I have tremendous respect for Dick and thank him for all of his efforts during these past four years. While this was a very difficult decision, I felt that it is one that needed to be made at this time for the best interest of our team. We will now focus on moving forward and preparing for our game this week in Jacksonville.”

Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is expected to take over as interim coach. Fewell’s defense has been pedestrian at best. It ranks 26th in total defense and dead last in run defense.

The Bills have bumbled their way to a 3-6 record, last place in the AFC East. They will miss the playoffs for the 10th straight season. (more…)

New England Patriots vs Indianapolis Colts Week10 NFL Picks

nfl

Tom Brady’s New England Patriots and Payton Manning’s Indianapolis Colts will both be trying to pick up a win on Sunday night at 8:20 PM ET when they battle at Lucas Oil Stadium, but more than a victory is at stake.  These two teams have been perennial AFC Championship and Superbowl contenders and both are back competing at the highest level.  Indy is undefeated and atop the AFC South at 8-0 while New England has a two game lead in the vaunted AFC East.  Ego and testosterone will be at a premium, so my NFL week 10 picks say give the points the fans will be the difference at home with another win and cover for the Colts.

The Patriots beat a good Miami team 27-17 as an 11-point favorite in Week 9. The combined score fell UNDER the posted over/under total (47). Tom Brady threw for 332 yards with a touchdown and an interception for New England and Randy Moss had a big day caughting six passes for 147 yards with a touchdown in the win. New England is 15-2-1 ATS in its last 18 games when playing on the road against Indianapolis and the total has gone UNDER in 4 of New England’s last 5 games on the road. (more…)

Miami Dolphins vs New England Patriots NFL Match Picks Week 9

nfl

The New England Patriots play host to the Miami Dolphins, Sunday Nov 8, as the Patriots look for their fifth straight home win. New England has won four of the past six meetings, but Miami won their last meeting in New England. NFL oddsmakers at BetUS.com have the Patriots as -10.5 point home favs over the Dolphins with the over/under set at 46.5 points .

he Dolphins (3-4) won in NY Jets 30-25 in Week 8 and now sit third in the AFC East. QB Chad Henne made   12 of 21 passes for 112 yards with one TD pass; overall he’s thrown for 771 yards with four TD passes and three interceptions in five games for a 78.4 passer rating. RB Ronnie Brown had 11 carries for 27 yards, while RB Ricky Williams had eight carries for 27 yards and two catches for 41 yards with a TD. Ted Ginn Jr. had a great game after he brought two kickoffs back for TD’s. The Dolphins O-line allowed QB Henne to be sacked six times.  The Dolphins had used their Wildcat formation to great effectiveness until the second half of a Week 7’s loss to the Saints. The Dolphins did not employ the Wildcat much in Week 8 and it will be interesting to see how often they utilize it in New England , the place where they first unveiled it early last season. The Pats defense is ranked 15th against the rush. Veteran DE/LB Jason Taylor rejoined the Dolphins in the offseason after a disappointing one-year hiatus in Washington and he has returned to his Pro Bowl form. He has 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and last week scored an NFL-record sixth career fumble return touchdown. Miami needs him at his best if it hopes to slow down Tom Brady and the explosive Patriots. The Fins struggle against the pass currently ranked 25th. The Dolphins average 25.1ppg and give up 25.3ppg, while they are 1-2 SU on the road where they average 16-7ppg and allow 22.3ppg. They are 3-4 ATS and 5-2 over/under. Dolphins coach Tony Sparano is 7-2 against the AFC East. (more…)

Dolphins’ Sparano holds himself accountable for coaching miscue

Miami Dolphins 2009 Football Headshots

DAVIE, Fla. — Tony Sparano could point to plenty of potential culprits for his lousy night’s sleep: the blown 21-point lead, the fourth-quarter meltdown, penalties, turnovers, missed tackles and Ted Ginn Jr.

Instead, Sparano’s own mistake kept him awake.

An ill-advised timeout just seconds before halftime helped reverse momentum against the New Orleans Saints, who rallied to beat Sparano’s Miami Dolphins 46-34.

“That was a poor decision on my part,” Sparano said Monday.

Immediately following the game Sunday, Sparano defended the timeout, saying he needed to substitute personnel. Upon further review, at his weekly day-after-the-game news conference, the coach raised the issue before he was even asked about it.

“I want my players to do this — I need to do it myself — I have to take ownership of the situation that happened at the end of the half,” Sparano said. “I always have the power of trump, and I did not do that. I should have lived with what was out on the field in that situation.” (more…)
