Carpenter Named To AFC Pro Bowl Team

Raiders Dolphins FootballPostseason awards are nothing new to Dan Carpenter.  The kicker from Helena racked up all-conference selections playing for Helena High School, and garnered four All-Big Sky selections and was named an All-American twice during his illustrious career with the Montana Grizzlies.

But Wednesday afternoon Carpenter was the recipient of a new accolade, his biggest yet: an NFL Pro Bowl selection.

Carpenter, in his second season with the Miami Dolphins, was named to the AFC roster of the NFL’s all-star game, replacing San Diego kicker Nate Kaeding, who pulled out Wednesday morning. (more…)

Coach Gailey Takes Charge In Buffalo

nflChan Gailey was hired by the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, getting a second chance to prove himself as a pro coach and inheriting a team that has missed the playoffs for 10 straight NFL seasons.

A two-month search to replace Dick Jauron ends with Gailey agreeing to lead a team that was 6-10.

In his two years coaching the Dallas Cowboys, Gailey went 18-14. (more…)

NFL Power Rankings Week 17

nflNFL Power Rankings Week 17:

1. Indianapolis Colts (1): 14-1. Well, obviously the Colts didn’t care about going for perfection, as Jim Caldwell chose to sit his starters in the 2nd half. All will be forgotten with a Super Bowl victory.

2. San Diego Chargers (3): 12-3. The Chargers are a team nobody wants to face come playoff time. They look scary good.

3. New Orleans Saints (2): 13-2. Suddenly there is trouble in New Orleans as they have suffered back to back home losses and this one to the lowly Buccaneers. The defense doesn’t look good.
4. Philadelphia Eagles (5): 11-4. The Eagles avoided a collapse against the Broncos to hold on for their 6th straight win. The division and a first round bye is theirs with a win in Dallas.
5. Minnesota Vikings (4): 11-4. The Vikings had all their chances to come back and win that game. As good as Adrian Peterson is, it’s evident he has a fumbling problem. A few weeks ago did anyone expect this team to be any lower than the 2nd seed? (more…)

Cushing again shows he is aching to be a star in the NFL

Brian Cushing remained in the back somewhere, back with the ice packs and IVs, the doctors and trainers, long after most of his teammates had showered, dressed and departed.

He needs a little extra time these days, time to ice down all the bruises, tape up the breaks and soak under a hot shower to calm all the screaming body parts.

This rookie season has taken a toll on him. First, there’s the sheer number of games, far longer and more exhausting than anything he experienced at USC. Second, there’s the speed and passion with which he plays. (more…)

SWINE FLU SLAMS RAMS

81707287DV023_SANFRANCISCOThe St. Louis Rams cancelled practice yesterday due to an undisclosed number of swine flu cases on the team, just three days before a home game against the Houston Texans. Coach Steve Spagnuolo would not say how many players had the illness but said five or six players had flu-like symptoms, and added that other players had reported symptoms the last few weeks. He anticipated the Rams would return to practice today with a workout that will incorporate some of the elements missed yesterday.

“It’s really more of a precaution than anything,” Spagnuolo said. “We’re checking everybody, we’re just being careful.” Earlier this year, the NHL’s Calgary Flames were criticized when players and their families received the swine flu vaccine while thousands of other people waited in lines that stretched for hours. Two Alberta Health Services employees were later fired. (more…)

Miami Dolphins Vs. Tennessee Titans NFL Week15 Predictions

nflThe Tennessee Titans hoist the Miami Dolphins, Sunday Dec 20, as both teams fight for a spot in the playoffs. Miami has won two straight over the Titans, dating back to 2006. NFL oddsmakers at BETREPUBLIC.com have the Titans as -3 point home favs over the Dolphins with the over/under set at 43 points.

The Dolphins (7-6) won in Jacksonville 14-10 in Week 14 and sit second in the AFC East, one game back from New England. QB Chad Henne made 21 of 29 passes for 220 yards with one rushing TD and one interception; overall he’s thrown for . RB Ricky Williams had 28 carries for 108 yards with a TD, while WR Greg Camarillo made seven catches for 110 yards. Carolina Panthers Vs. New England Patriots NFL Week14 Result

The New England Patriots have needed a second-half spark most of the season. On Sunday, Wes Welker gave it to them.

Welker caught five passes on their tiebreaking series in the third quarter and the Patriots ended their worst slide in seven seasons with a 20-10 win over the Carolina Panthers.

“We’d been flat pretty much the whole game and we needed a big drive there,” Welker said. “That’s when you have to step up.”

Welker finished with 10 catches for 105 yards, his fifth 100-yard performance of the season. He has an NFL-high 105 receptions and joined Marvin Harrison, Jerry Rice and Herman Moore as the only receivers with at least three consecutive 100-catch seasons. (more…)

New England Patriots Vs. Miami Dolphins NFL Week 13 Picks

The Patriots have won their last two meetings over the Dolphins. NFL oddsmakers at Sportsbetting.com have the Patriots as -6.5 point road favs over the Dolphins with the over/under set at 47 points.

The Patriots (7-4) lost in New Orleans 17-38 in Week 12 and still sit atop the AFC East. Bills 31-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins

nflIn delivering Fewell his first career win, the Bills erupted for 24 points in the fourth quarter in a 31-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

And all Terrell Owens could wonder after he helped seal the rout with a 51-yard touchdown catch was what might have been if Bills owner Ralph Wilson had fired Dick Jauron a few games earlier.

“Well, he’s two weeks too late,” Owens said, crediting Fewell who took over when Jauron was fired Nov. 17. “I’ve been wanting to be aggressive all year.” (more…)
