Before the beginning of signing period in previous month, Carolina Panthers relieved Damione Lewis. Damione Lewis started all 16 games last season for Carolina Panthers. Damione Lewis also played for St. Louis Rams’ three first-round picks in 2001.

Damione Lewis was scheduled to earn $755,000 this season. He played with Carolina but his salary with New England wouldn’t make any difference. But, it will include little amount of guaranteed money.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger facing allegations of assaulting a female college student in Georgia, didn’t report to the team’s offseason workouts Monday.

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said Roethlisberger was not joined in work out with his teammates this week. Except Roethlisberger, all the seniors players started the conditioning and weightlifting program Monday. All less experienced players started work outs two weeks before only.

Pittsburgh Steelers will not start on-field practicing before April 19, when most players are expected to be available for that time.

The team management believes it would be a obstacle for Roethlisberger to be working out at this time. Investigation is in progress about Ben Roethlisberger regarding this issue.

Ben Roethlisberger also sued by a woman in Nevada previously in the year 2008. He accused of assaulting her in a Lake Tahoe hotel. That time he strongly denied all the allegations and filed a counter suit in the case.

Two NFC North coaches Childress and Green Bay’s Mike McCarthy expressed their views about the changes and both believe it will help the passing game and perhaps offer quarterbacks better protection as well.

“It’s a great change,” McCarthy said. The teams will lose the opportunity to run pick plays using the umpire, which we all know happened regularly. But as Childress pointed out, “that area will be wide open now.”

“That’s a big deal to the passing game,” Childress said. I asked him if it was a bigger deal than losing pick plays. “I think it is,” Childress said. “Definitely.”

McCarthy noted that that plenty of incomplete passes over the years have resulted from quarterbacks trying to throw around or over the umpire.

Joey Porter signed a three year deal to play for the Arizona Cardinals. The CHP spokesman said two officers stopped a friend of Porter’s in another car in the Taco Bell parking lot off Hageman Road and Calloway Drive about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Porter pulled up behind the CHP car, and one of the two officers went over to Porter’s car. “The officer detected mister Porter had been drinking,” Clotworthy said.

He said an officer asked for Porter’s driver’s license and for Porter to get out of the car for a field sobriety test. “Mister Porter refused to do that and instead of complying with officers order, request, he began to roll up his window,” Clotworthy said.

The officer reportedly reached in through the window and lifted the unlock button. “At that time Mister Porter struck the officers hand. The officer was able to push Mister Porter’s arm out of the way. Mister Porter then got out of the vehicle in a confrontational manner.”

As per the proposal, the team that wins the toss could still win the game with a touchdown on its first possession. But if the team that got the first possession only scored a field goal, the opposing team would get a chance to tie the game. If it did, the game would revert to sudden-death overtime.

“It’s getting a lot of thought. It’s got the potential to be a better system,” Roger Goodell told.

But the new proposal should have the approval of 24 of the league’s 32 teams.

The recent allegation on Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger came to the news on March 5, hasn’t yet led to any kind of official charges in Georgia. When this allegation is proved, the  Pittsburgh Steelers or the league might immediately cancel the deal.

“I’m highly concerned for our franchise and for Ben personally,” Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told.

Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert is still saying that the team has no plans to draft a quarterback in the early rounds of the upcoming draft, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. “That position appears to be set,” Colbert told.

In the upcoming meeting, all the owners will be asked to vote on a proposal to change the Overtime rules. Due to several reasons, the coin flip has become a significant factor in determining the outcome of overtime. Kickers are more accurate, offenses are too efficient and, under the current system, there is a better than 1-in-3 chance (34.4 percent) that overtime will end with the first possession.

This happened in the NFC title game at New Orleans two months ago, when the Saints used a 40-yard kickoff return to set up a winning field goal while Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson stewed helplessly on the Minnesota bench.

The NFL Competition Committee is being careful about changing the Overtime rules as their may have a chance of fixing. All owners will have their own ideas which helps their teams which leads to fixing. Everything changed in 1994, after the league moved the kickoff spot from the 35-yard line back to the 30.

There is a lot of things to discuss during the offseason, but Overtime policies might be the main agenda. The NFL’s competition committee has discovered that winning the coin toss can be an increasingly unfair advantage, or the final nail in the coffin for the team forced to kickoff. Finally, the committee has proposed that the league adjust its overtime format in the postseason.

All the team owners will analyze overtime rules, among other topics beginning on Sunday. NFL management is looking for the proposal of changing overtime rules for the regular season and also may discuss with the all team managements.
In 1994, the overtime kickoff was pushed back from the 35-yard line to the 30. Since then, the team winning the coin toss has won 58.9% of overtime games compared to 46.8% from 1974-1993.

As per the proposed new rule, both teams should get the ball atleast once unless a touchdown is scored on the opening possession. Otherwise the team who lost the coin toss would get a chance to win or tie the game. Should the game remain tied, sudden death is restored and the first team to score wins.
