New Orleans Saints 38-17 Victory Over New England Patriots

SAINTS BREES FOOTBALLWith one pinpoint throw after another, Drew Brees put New Orleans’ pursuit of perfection into overdrive and left Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the dust.

Brees threw for a season-high 371 yards and five touchdowns, carving up coach Bill Belichick’s defense like few quarterbacks ever have in the Saints’ 38-17 victory Monday night.

“It only counts for one win on the stat sheet, but emotionally, those types of wins can mean a little more,” Brees said. “Anytime you can win, and win that way, it builds confidence for you.” By harassing Brady all game and routing one of the NFL’s top powers, the Saints joined the Indianapolis Colts at 11-0 — the first time two NFL teams have opened with that many consecutive wins in the same season. Indianapolis Colts 35-27 Victory Over Houston Texans

nflThe AFC South champion Indianapolis Colts have perfected the art of the comeback in their undefeated march into the playoffs.

Peyton Manning threw for three touchdowns and the Colts rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit Sunday for a 35-27 win over the Texans, their 20th straight regular-season victory. Indianapolis (11-0) is one win shy of the New England Patriots’ NFL-record 21-game run from 2006-08. The Colts can tie the record if they beat Tennessee at home next weekend.

The Colts improved to 15-1 against Houston (5-6) in their fifth straight come-from-behind win. They became the first team to secure a playoff berth and gained the AFC South title Sunday evening when San Francisco beat Jacksonville 20-3. (more…)

Philadelphia Eagles Won with 24-27 Over Washington Redskins

nflNothing was going right for the Philadelphia Eagles when Donovan McNabb decided to give a pep talk.

Then it was time for another comeback win.

David Akers kicked a 32-yard field goal with 1:48 remaining and the Eagles rallied for a 27-24 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

A week ago, McNabb led the Eagles (7-4) to a late touchdown in a 24-20 win at Chicago. It was the first time Philadelphia came from behind in the final quarter and won since a 33-25 victory at Washington on Nov. 11, 2007.

“We knew we can do it,” McNabb said. “We just had to get it done.”

So what did McNabb say to his teammates? (more…)

New York Jets 7-16 Victory Over Carolina Panthers

nflDarrelle Revis saw the ball deflect off Steve Smith’s foot and float right into his hands.

Finally, the New York Jets thought, a lucky bounce that went their way.

Revis returned one of the Jets’ four interceptions 67 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and New York overcame an injury scare to quarterback Mark Sanchez before holding on to beat the Carolina Panthers 17-6 on Sunday.

“That was a sigh of relief,” Revis said of his early touchdown. “That was an easy score right there. It doesn’t get any better than that to start us off.”

Thomas Jones had a 3-yard touchdown run as the Jets (5-6) won at home for the first time since beating Tennessee in Week 3, sending the Panthers (4-7) to their second straight loss. (more…)

Seahawks’ Forsett rumbles for 130 yards, 2 TDs in victory

nflThe Seattle Seahawks ended their road woes in an environment that was far from intimidating, a stadium half-filled at best.

Justin Forsett set career highs with 130 yards and two touchdowns and the go-ahead score came on the Seahawks’ third defensive touchdown of the season in a 27-17 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

Never mind that the Rams have lost 10 in a row at home and have one victory this season, it was an upbeat Seattle locker room.

“No matter what their record is, you’ve got to celebrate, be happy and keep it going,” said cornerback Josh Wilson, who had a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown near the end of the first half. “If it wasn’t for the ‘W’ I wouldn’t be doing this interview with a smile on my face.” (more…)

Cincinnati Bengals 7-16 Victory Over Cleveland Browns

nflLess than two weeks after the Cincinnati Bengals signed him as an inexpensive insurance policy, Larry Johnson showed he can still be the leading man.

The newcomer piled up 107 yards on Sunday, leading the way as the Bengals ran the table in the AFC North by running over the Cleveland Browns 16-7.

“I’m just glad they trust me to go in there, especially with the division and the playoffs on the line,” said Johnson, who was released by Kansas City after a suspension. “I just came here for a second chance.” (more…)

Bills 31-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins

nflIn delivering Fewell his first career win, the Bills erupted for 24 points in the fourth quarter in a 31-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

And all Terrell Owens could wonder after he helped seal the rout with a 51-yard touchdown catch was what might have been if Bills owner Ralph Wilson had fired Dick Jauron a few games earlier.

“Well, he’s two weeks too late,” Owens said, crediting Fewell who took over when Jauron was fired Nov. 17. “I’ve been wanting to be aggressive all year.” (more…)

Atlanta Falcons Saved their Season with 17-20

11781690Atlanta Falcons Saved their Season with 17-20 over Buccaneers.

Backup quarterback Chris Redman threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Roddy White with 23 seconds remaining Sunday, and Atlanta pulled out a 20-17 victory over the woeful Tampa Bay Buccaneers after offensive stars Matt Ryan and Michael Turner went down with injuries.

“We couldn’t afford to lose this one,” White said. “It’s a good thing Chris came in there and did what he had to do to win this game.”

Will it last? That likely depends on how long Ryan, Turner and starting offensive linemen Harvey Dahl and Sam Baker are out. All left the game with injuries, and the Falcons wouldn’t say how serious they are.

Ryan, the second-year quarterback, hurt his big right toe on Atlanta’s very first series. Turner reinjured his right ankle during the third quarter, a high sprain that had kept the running back out of the previous game and limited him in practice. (more…)

New England Patriots Vs. New Orleans Saints Week 12 NFL Match Preview

nflThe New Orleans Saints’ bid for a 16-0 regular season is about to face its toughest test yet — the only team in NFL history to accomplish the feat.

The high-powered Saints put their perfect record on the line Monday night in the Superdome against a New England Patriots club that nearly knocked off the league’s other unbeaten two weeks ago.

The Saints have steamrolled through the league while winning their first 10 games, averaging 36.9 points behind quarterback Drew Brees and a dynamic offense that’s seen 12 different players score touchdowns.

Such a run might seem unprecedented if it hadn’t been done even better two short years ago. The 2007 Patriots also opened 10-0 while averaging an almost unfathomable 41.1 points. They went on to achieve the NFL’s only perfect 16-game regular season, though their run ultimately ended with bitter disappointment and a 17-14 Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants. (more…)

Broncos stop losing streak at four with win vs. Giants

nflJosh McDaniels is an emotional coach who stocked his roster with passionate players.

All of them were on full display on Thanksgiving night in the Denver Broncos’ R-rated 26-6 victory over the New York Giants.

Brain Drawkins inspired play led a Denver defensive revival and the offense did its part by controlling the clock and in a slump-busting win.

The NFL Network joined the fray by accidentally airing a clip of McDaniels cursing at his players after they committed three false starts and dropped a pass in a five-play sequence that really got his blood boiling. (more…)
