Miami won with 24-17 about Carolina in Week11 NFL Match

nfl

With Ronnie Brown lost for the season, the Miami Dolphins turned to their aging running back.

Ricky Williams showed he’s still got it.

The 32-year-old Williams rushed for 119 yards and scored three touchdowns, and the Dolphins beat the Carolina Panthers 24-17 on Thursday night for their fourth win in six games to get into the AFC playoff picture.

A day after learning Brown is lost for the season to a foot injury, the Dolphins (5-5) continued their surge after an 0-3 start behind Williams. The 2002 NFL rushing champion had a receiving and rushing touchdown in the same game for the first time in his career that included a couple of lost seasons. (more…)

Johnson looking forward to facing Chiefs

nfl

As he spoke to the media about moving on, Larry Johnson said playing against the Kansas City Chiefs on Dec. 27 would be the “best Christmas gift I can get.”

It seems like Johnson is harboring some bad feelings toward his former team. But why?

Johnson came out of this mess, which he created, in pretty good shape. He left a team that is 2-7 for a team that is 7-2 when he signed with Cincinnati this week. Also, because he wasn’t claimed after Kansas City cut him, Johnson will receive his entire $4.55 million salary from the Chiefs. Plus, he received a prorated contract from the Bengals. So Johnson, who averaged 2.7 yards per carry this season, is getting a bonus. (more…)

Cowboys Excited About Free Trial

Giants Cowboys Football

Cowboys offensive line coach Hudson Houck told reporters at Valley Ranch on Wednesday that third-year player Doug Free will make his first start at right tackle Sunday against the Redskins. Free replaced the injured Marc Colombo in Sunday’s game against the Packers and he’ll likely get a chance to start the rest of the season. Colombo, who had surgery to repair ligaments in his ankle earlier this week and has a fracture in his left fibula, is still holding out hope that he could return for the playoffs.

Both Houck and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett expressed confidence in Colombo on Wednesday.

“The exciting part of it is you’ve got another guy ready to go,” Houck said. “He steps in. He got his turn. And we don’t miss a beat.” (more…)

Bills aim high with Shanahan

nfl

Just maybe, Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson will make the out-of-character hire his fans have been begging for.

According to reports the Bills have contacted Mike Shanahan about being their next head coach and are in the process of arranging to meet.

The Bills on Tuesday fired Dick Jauron and named defensive coordinator Perry Fewell the interim coach.

Shanahan won a pair of Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos. He had two losing records in his 14 seasons with the Broncos. His career record, including two years with the Oakland Raiders, is 146-98. (more…)

Bills strip Trent Edwards for first time

nfl

For the first time since the Buffalo Bills drafted him in 2007, Trent Edwards has lost his job as starter.

Edwards has missed games due to various injuries, but he always got his job back when he was ready to play again. Never before had a quarterback overtaken him until Wednesday, when interim had coach Perry Fewell named Ryan Fitzpatrick the starter for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Dick Jauron, fired as head coach Tuesday, yanked Edwards from the final minutes of Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans after throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown. The Titans also brought back a Fitzpatrick interception for a touchdown. (more…)

Good News For Westbrook

nfl

In a statement that was released earlier this evening by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Eagles, doctors said that running back Brian Westbrook’s symptoms from a second concussion in three weeks had improved significantly and that he’s expected to make a full recovery.

“We are very encouraged by Brian’s progress, we believe that he has an excellent prognosis and we expect a full recovery,” Dr. Joseph Maroon and Dr. Michael Collins said in the joint statement. “We developed a comprehensive physical rehab plan for Brian, and we will repeat the detailed testing in the next two to three weeks.” (more…)

Miami Dolphins Vs Carolina Panthers Week 11 NFL Match

nfl

This Thursday night a pair of 4-5 teams will be looking to get back to .500 when the Miami Dolphins take on the Carolina Panthers at Bank of American Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Last week, the Dolphins needed a late field goal to escape with a 25-23 win over Tampa Bay while the Panthers took care of division-rival Atlanta 28-19. These two teams have not met since the 2005 season when the Dolphins beat the Panthers 27-24 in a good one behind 132 rushing yards by Ronnie Brown. There have only been three meetings between these two franchises and Miami has won all three.

Miami won its only other trip to Carolina 13-9 back in 1998, but the Phins could have their work cut out for themselves this time around. The Panthers are coming on strong and Miami running back Ronnie Brown is listed as doubtful. That means that Ricky Williams, who has rushed for 558 yards and six scores on a 5.3 yards per carry average, will take over as the feature back. But Williams is no spring chicken, and seems to thrive because he is a change of pace after the defense gets used to Brown. Lex Hilliard is the next running back in line and he will likely split carries with Williams Thursday. If Hilliard does the job, the Dolphins, who are averaging 156 yards rushing on 4.6 yards per carry, will still be tough to stop on the ground. (more…)

Week 11 power rankings: AFC East

nfl

The latest NFL Power Rankings are out.

The power rankings panel consists of ESPN senior writers John Clayton and Jeffri Chadiha, AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky and NFC West blogger Mike Sando.

No. 5 New England Patriots

* Last week’s rating: No. 6
* Best rating: No. 5
* Worst rating: No. 5
* Note: The Patriots climbed a spot in the ranking for coming thisclose to beating the No. 2 Indianapolis Colts on the road. The Patriots will have another shot to assert themselves 13 days from now in the Superdome against the No. 1 New Orleans Saints.

No. 18 Miami Dolphins

* Last week’s rating: No. 17
* Best rating: No. 18 (Clayton, Chadiha, Sando)
* Worst rating: No. 19 (Kuharsky)
* Note: A narrow victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn’t impress the panel, but those who followed the game closely have to give the tattered Dolphins credit for one of their gutsiest performances in recent years.

No. 21 New York Jets

* Last week’s rating: No. 18
* Best rating: No. 19 (Clayton)
* Worst rating: No. 22 (Sando)
* Note: Their position is the lowest since the season began, but still two spots higher than their preseason ranking. Just six weeks ago, the Jets were rated as the No. 5 team in the poll.

No. 26 Buffalo Bills

* Last week’s rating: No. 24
* Best rating: No. 25 (Clayton, Kuharsky)
* Worst rating: No. 26 (Chadiha, Sando)
* Note: After floating around at No. 21 for most of the year and No. 22 as recently as two weeks ago, the Bills finally are settling in the area I thought they belonged for over a month. They rank ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, St. Louis Rams and Cleveland Browns.(source)

Week 11 power rankings: NFC East

nfl

After taking a minute to peruse the rankings, it’s time to discuss how NFC East teams continue to plummet — and deservedly so. All we can do is try to hold onto the memories of the the early weeks, when the Giants and Eagles were beating up on a soft schedule. Here’s how the Beast teams finished this week:

10. Dallas Cowboys — The Cowboys only dropped two spots after a road loss to the Packers. Either the voters think Sunday’s performance by Dallas was an aberration or they think the Packers are about to make a run.

12. Philadelphia Eagles — The Eagles only dropped one spot in the rankings from last week. I think that says more about the staggering amount of mediocre teams in the league than it does the voters’ faith in the Eagles.

16. New York Giants – The Giants had a strong bye week with the Cowboys and Eagles losing, but the voters went ahead and dropped them another spot. They will play a Falcons team that dropped a whopping five spots in the rankings to No. 14 overall.

24. Washington Redskins — The win over the Broncos moved the Skins up two spots, which is about right. I thought they were too high at No. 26, but they deserved a bump after the impressive win. If they beat the Cowboys on Sunday, they’ll make a serious move in the rankings.

We’ll return in a little while to talk about how the NFC East stacks up with the other divisions.(source)
