
The rapport between Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Roy Williams and quarterback Tony Romo remains a work in progress. But last week’s extra work appears to have paid immediate dividends.
After Williams complained about his lack of timing with Romo, the duo’s chemistry went from front page story in Dallas to same page synergy at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.
The Williams-Romo dynamic showed considerable improvement in Sunday night’s 20-16 win against the Philadelphia Eagles that vaulted the 6-2 Cowboys into sole possession of first place in the NFC East.
When Williams expressed frustration with the lack of catchable balls thrown his way compared to emerging Miles Austin, Romo dedicated extra post-practice time with the receiver acquired in an Oct. 14, 2008 trade from the Detroit Lions.
Both parties insisted there was no recurrence of last season’s divisive Terrell Owens quarterback-receiver, pass-targeting controversy that ended with Owens’ March release.
As if to underscore that point, Romo hit Williams for 21 yards on the game-opening possession. The quarterback continued to find Williams four more times for 54 more yards, producing five catches for 75 yards, the most receptions of Williams’ 17 games as a Cowboy. (more…)
